Whenever I begin surveillance on a suspected cheater, the moment he leaves the house, there is a near certainty he is headed to the car wash. You can actually measure the duration of an affair by how much time a man spends on his vehicle. I’ve watched men spend hours meticulously detailing every inch of their car, and I’ve watched others spend twenty minutes tossing out fast-food bags and running through a quick automated wash. In my experience, the effort put into the car is directly proportional to how “new” the relationship is.
Why the Car Wash Matters
Don’t get me wrong—plenty of men keep their cars clean as a matter of pride. A car wash on its own isn’t a crime. But when a man leaves his home under a cloud of suspicion and his very first stop is a detailing center, the odds are high that his next stop is her front door. I don’t know if it’s a biological drive or simply an embarrassment factor, but I do know that when a subject pulls into a car wash, it’s going to be a very busy day for me.

So, to the wives out there: take note. If your husband leaves the house in a dirty car for an “undetermined” amount of time and returns with a spotless vehicle and a vague explanation, you might want to call a private investigator.
